Make Do and Mend.
On Wednesday we were put into groups with the idea to construct a garment following the lines of 'Make Do and Mend'. Since Make Do and Mend can cover such a broad spectrum of design and style it makes group work difficult, because everyone has different ideas on what is appealing to them. The range of materials also sought to add confusion - as there are just so many possibilities and options to consider with only a few hours to both design and construct.
What we ended up constructing was a sleeveless jacket come waistcoat. The pockets were removed and added to the collar to create a more exaggerated and pronounced look. We also stitched in an old shirt with its collar fixed upright. The part I think looks best is the back. We tucked in the material to give it a more fitted look and to keep it in place we added a kind of belt.
We changed our design numerous times, it was difficult to find something that everyone agreed on. However, I think the final piece is something that we, on the whole, all liked.
